Understanding film, ages 13 and up

Understanding Film is a film and video training program dedicated to preparing students for careers in the entertainment industry. The program focuses on the intersection of art, technology, and commerce in relation to audio/video storytelling techniques. With an educational philosophy that emphasizes hands-on learning and industry-engaged projects, students are immersed in real-world practices and current technologies.

Students are taught how to construct a story from interviews, archival footage, and b-roll on topics that matter to them. They learn interview techniques, editing, music design, and proficiency with camera and audio equipment. Teams of students work together to write, act, shoot, and edit their own short films, with the opportunity for each student to participate in all aspects or just the areas of interest.

With professional equipment and software provided, students develop essential skills in all aspects of film and video production. The program also prepares students for future careers in the entertainment industry and provides opportunities to discover their unique voices through collaboration and hands-on experience.
